I would really like to read your piece--and, wow, I can't believe The Chronicle published it! But, well, let me see if I can get past the disgust of signing up for yet another thing. :) I bet they will ask for a password. That's where I draw the line.

Yeah, getting set up with the Chronicle is kind of a hassle, but in this case it's worth it: this is an excellent commentary.

A brilliant analysis. It could be transposed to the current British situation, though things here may be about ten years behind, and the quality of debate, the settled dialectic with its two-way cancellation, is far less subtle than it appears to be in the States -- even despite the wild haired septuagenarian's re-emergence.
