Newsletter #37: Ten Days in October
A collaborative report from the Matthew Strother Center for the Examined Life
Dear friends and readers,
I have a new piece out today in The Hinternet. It is about the program I led in October for that study retreat I've been telling you about, specifically about the reading we did, so different from the way people read for the most part today. And since it was a "we"—me and five students and my TA—I asked the others to write about their own experiences, which reflections I incorporated into the piece. They did a great job, too.
In other news, I recently did two podcast appearances to talk about that post-election piece I published in November, "The Politics of the Academy Have Been Defeated." One is paywalled, but the other, for a podcast for provosts (yes, that's a thing), was really interesting, touching on a lot of controversial topics in a way that was calm and productive.
For those of you who are getting this newsletter for the first time, I (usually) use it for news of new work only. For new podcast and other appearances, you can friend me on Facebook or follow me on Twitter/X.
To catch up on (most of) the pieces I announced in earlier editions of this newsletter, see the “Recent” column on the Essays & Reviews page of my website. For a selection of past podcast and other appearances, see the Media page of my website.
Thanks for reading.
