Dear friends and readers,
I have a new piece out in Liberties about the importance of what I have come to think of, for lack of a better word, as respect: the recognition of another as other and the willingness to let them be such. Along the way I mention Dave Chapelle, Louise Glück, Martin Buber, Ron DeSantis, and various figures from my lengthening past.
In other news, the live event I announced in the last installment of this newsletter, "How Zionist Youth Movement Changed My Life," which was to have taken place in Los Angeles on September 9, has been rescheduled as a webinar that will happen on November 12 at 8 PM Eastern/5 PM Pacific. That means that you can tune in from the comfort of your home. And yes, I expect that there will be a video that I will link to later.
For those of you who are getting this newsletter for the first time, I generally use it for news of new work only. For new podcast and other appearances, you can friend me on Facebook or follow me on Twitter/X.
To catch up on (most of) the pieces I announced in earlier editions of this newsletter, see the “Recent” column on the Essays & Reviews page of my website. For a selection of past podcast and other appearances, see the Media page of my website.
Thanks for reading.
Bill
